Rheem Hot Water Systems
Contents
Probably the most common house hold name in Adelaide when it comes to Hot Water is Rheem. Ever since the days of the memorable TV advert where its catchy jingle was “Install a Rheem, Install a Rheem” house owners have grown to enjoy the reliability of having a Rheem Hot Water Service installed in their homes.
Rheem has been producing various sizes and styles of Hot Water Systems since 1939 where their operations first commenced in Sydney, NSW, Australia. Only a few months after Rheem had started producing steel tank storage hot water systems BHP purchased a 50% share of ownership in the company ensuring the ongoing success of Rheem up till now and into the foreseeable future.
All Conditions
For more than 25 years now Rheem has been at the head of the pack when it comes to Hot Water design to meet the extreme hot and freezing cold conditions we experience throughout the various states. This is particularly handy considering the extreme temperature differentials we can experience right here in Adelaide, from locations such as the Adelaide Hills where the temperatures during winter can dip well below freezing and during summer where the temperatures can peak well above 40 degrees Celsius in places such as Mawson Lakes.
In 1988 a South Australian company called Southcorp Limited (known back then as South Australian Brewing Holdings) purchased Rheem which became known as Southcorp Water Heaters. Paloma Co Ltd took an interest in Rheem back in 2001 and are now today the ultimate controlling entity of Rheem Australia Pty Ltd. Paloma are an internationally renowned company for their manufacturing and industry changing technology in both the fields of water heating and space heating.
Largest Hot Water Brand
Rheem is currently Australia’s largest supplier of 5-star energy efficient gas storage hot water services with the recent introduction to the market of the Rheem Stellar. Rheem also offers 6-star energy rated continuous flow tankless hot water systems. Rheem offer a complete range of energy efficient hot water solutions to any home regardless of its size.
It’s not just domestic gas fired hot water systems which Rheem manufacture, they produce solar heated systems with tanks mounted either on the roof (lo-line) or tanks mounted on the ground (hi-line) and these systems can have a backup heating source of either electricity or gas (both natural and lpg). Electric storage hot water systems are a very common source for hot water in both domestic and commercial set ups and Rheem proudly supply a wide range of tanks to suit any demand with tank sizes starting from as little as 25L ranging all the way up to 400L ensuring you never run out of Hot Water and if you are looking for a quick recovery storage electric hot water system Rheem offer triple element models in the 50L and 315L range and even a 6 element model in the 315L range ensuring you never run out of hot water.
Heat Pump Hot Water systems although not as popular in Adelaide due to our ease of access to natural gas are still occasionally installed and therefore need servicing. The Rheem Heat Pump range of hot water heaters start off at 310L and extend through to 410L ensuring the chances of running out of hot water is very minimal.
Rheem Warranty
When it comes to warranty Rheem offer great piece of mind with a variety of tanks starting at a 7-year warranty and others ranging all the way up to 10 years giving you piece of mind for a long period of time. In the tankless range of continuous flow systems Rheem offer 10 years’ piece of mind on the heat exchanger and 3 years on all other parts and labour (domestic use). In the solar range of heating hot water, the warranties are very similar for the panels with some levels of cover starting at 7 years and others extending out to 10 years of cover depending of the style and type purchased.
Commercial Water Heating Solutions
Commercial water heating solutions have a big task to perform. The majority of the time a commercial water heating plantroom will be required to deliver every minute of the day, sometimes working harder than others depending on the specific demands placed upon them at different times.
Rheem have been involved with commercial water heating applications for many years in Adelaide providing businesses such as hotels, food preparation facilities, shopping centres and aged care centres with reliable hot water solutions.
The majority of Rheem commercial hot water products installed are fuelled using either natural gas or propane gas. The reason for this is that these set ups are very thirsty for fuel in order to power these huge burners. If a property such as a winery in the Adelaide Hills does not
have access to natural gas they will have a large torpedo style storage vessel onsite which will store up to 3 months’ worth of gas onsite (on average) and will be filled up quarterly by a mobile delivery company such as Thomas Gas in Aldgate.
Types Of Rheem Commercial Hot Water Services
Rheem offer a few options for commercial hot water delivery dependent on how large the intended demand will be and also location. Below are a couple examples of what we help our clients within Adelaide, one is low demand and the other is high demand:
Low demand commercial hot water:
At a medical centre in North Adelaide they have 2 Rheem Heavy Duty 265L outdoor water heaters installed. These units provide hot water to the entire building via a ring main which uses an Ultra Flow circulating pump to push the water around the building. This building is
only occupied during normal business hours and not open on weekends. We have programmed the circulating pump to operate at different speeds depending on the time of day.
In this particular building the use for hot water is mainly for hand basins, kitchen sinks and sterilising rooms. The use is still significant but no where near what you would see in a hotel, winery or meat processing plant.
High demand commercial Rheem hot water:
At a boarding School in Adelaide’s eastern suburbs they have a large commercial hot water system installed. The water is firstly circulated via a solar preheating system. The water is initially circulated via a large Grundfos Alpha2 circulator pump through a bank of roof mounted solar hot water panels before it is pushed through 8 wall mounted Rheem 27 litre commercial continuous flow heaters.
The advantage of using the Grundfos Alpha2 circulator pump is that it is smart and adapts according to the requirements placed upon it.
When usage is high it will increase the flow rate and when use is low it will slow the flow rate conserving energy all round. The Rheem 27 litre commercial external units are fired via natural gas and vent naturally to atmosphere via the combustion fan inside each unit. In periods of high solar contribution, the need for gas boosting is lower compared with that of the middle of winter. Due to high demand of hot water in the morning and again at night this system is always under pressure to perform and very rarely sleeps.
Commercial water heaters are very different to that of domestic systems and require the skills of properly trained repair agency. If you need help with your Rheem hot water system please get in touch today we understand your business is important to you and when you
need help you need it fast, that’s what we do best across all of Adelaide and the entire Adelaide Hills area.
