Fuelling Your Hot Water Service in The Adelaide Hills – Gas

Living in the Adelaide Hills is a fantastic lifestyle choice. The proximity to some of the world’s best wineries and holiday destinations makes South Australia’s Adelaide Hills the right choice for residents of SA. Many of our customers call Adelaide Hills home and enjoy the lifestyle.

With just a short commute down the Southern Expressway the CBD is only a 15-minute drive for many people. Many suburbs in the hills have seen significant growth over the past 20 years with the introduction of the Heysen tunnel’s and the removal of the need to use the devil’s elbow.

The Stirling turn off is currently seeing a huge 3 lane upgrade which is creating a few traffic delays but is due for completion relatively soon. The need for this work is an indication of just how popular Stirling, Crafers, Bridgewater, Mount Torrens and Aldgate have become.

Aldi supermarket is currently under construction on Pomona Road in Stirling which has required some huge storm water infrastructure upgrades and also enormous retaining walls installed. It probably won’t be till mid 2021 that this store opens for all the local residents, with a huge carpark to take all the happy shoppers.

Gas For Hot Water In The Adelaide Hills

Unfortunately, South Australia does not have piped natural gas throughout the hill’s locations even pockets of Coromandel Valley, Belair, Blackwood and Glen Osmond have missed out on piped underground natural gas. The alternative for this is Liquid Petroleum Gas also known as LPG or Propane. Majority of houses and businesses use 2 x 45-kilogram swap over bottles which are changed to a wall with a pressure regulator and connected via copper pig tails. On average two bottles will last a standard home 6 months. A standard house on bottled gas will use this fuel for hot water, cooking and ducted room heating.

When we look at commercial applications who use LPG there will be a large onsite storage vessel often referred to as a torpedo. These are large onsite refillable vessels supply gas to large scale operations such as wineries, manufacturing and hotels. These premises have multiple hot water services banked together which create large amounts of hot water for high demand applications. Brands such as Rheem, Rinnai and Raypak are common manufacturers of these products installed.

In order to perform maintenance on these products you need a hot water specialist with many years of experience and that’s how we have become an Adelaide Hills preferred hot water technician. Our desire to travel to some of the far remote parts such as Strathalbyn, Woodside, Uraidla and Birdwood have secured us long term contracts with many of the South Australian businesses located in these parts of South Australia.

Propane gas is supplied in a compressed form and leaves its storage vessel in high pressure. The advantage of this is that it can be distributed in smaller diameter pipes saving costs on installations. When the gas reaches its appliance or the building it will regulated in pressure via a pressure regulator. Typically, the maximum allowable pressure for any appliance will be 2.75kpa. Propane gas burns a light blue bright flame which is very different to natural gas which has more of a dark blue/purple flame.

LPG Gas

The distribution of LPG through the Adelaide Hills majority of the time will come from Thomas Gas in Aldgate, Adelaide Hills Gas in Totness and Lenswood Gas Centre in Lenswood. Using bottled gas will occur a yearly rental fee on top of the supply and delivery fees each time a bottle is changed. Fortunately, most set ups have an auto change over valve will allows for the owners not to run out of gas (as long as they keep an eye on the second bottles levels). Gas is a fantastic option for creating hot water instead of electricity.

In the hills solar electricity can be tricky as there are lots of trees and create shade onto the solar panels which don’t generate enough power.
You will find the common brands of hot water providers offer an LPG option with majority of there models. Rinnai, Rheem, DUX, Aqua MAX and Thermann all offer natural gas and lpg compatible versions of there water heaters. For our staff the common location to collect spare parts or new hot water services is in Mount Barker.

Our storage warehouse located in Oakbank also carries a variety of spares and new systems in case of plumbing emergencies out of normal business hours.

Call the hot water experts in the Adelaide Hills of South Australia today for service around the clock 24 hours and 7 days we also work on public holidays.
