Key Points To Know About The ZIP All In One Tap

ZIP have recently introduced the all in one mixer tap to the Adelaide market. The all in one ZIP unit now delivers Sparkling water, Chilled water, Boiling water and normal hot and cold all from the same tap. With a wide variety of styles and colours of taps to choose from this is the first point majority of our clients start with. But there are other key points to consider when we start to address the technical side of things.

As highly rated, trained and experienced ZIP technicians across Adelaide we have come across numerous installation problems during our 20 plus years of being involved with ZIP products and, in this post, we are going to help you ensure that this very expensive (typically around $5,400 supply only) piece of kitchen equipment works at its best for you.

Tip For Best Performance Of Your ZIP Hot Water System

Contents

1. Location: The control centre of a ZIP unit is large approx. 300mm in width and 500mm in length. It takes up a large portion of any kitchen cupboard. It is very important that careful planning is put in place during the first fix installation of all plumbing pipes and drains in order to avoid any services clashing.

2. Power: The ZIP units do not require dedicated circuits and can be plugged directly into a standard 10amp GPO. It is important to ensure a power point is installed inside the same cupboard to assist with future maintenance.

3. Ventilation: The ZIP unit has a lot going on inside of its pretty case. Its boiling water, chilling water and making it sparkle. All this equals a lot of energy which equals a lot of heat. The cupboard needs to be very well ventilated to allow the hot air to escape but to allow new air back into the cupboard. In commercial applications where a larger system is installed, and the demand is higher we will supply a fan inside the cupboard to assist with air movement.

4. Boosting: What will be the demand on the system. If the use is domestic/residential then no boosting will be needed. If the use is for commercial such as a high-volume office or school boosting should be considered. The booster pack gets installed inside the cupboard and ensures during periods of high demand the unit will deliver to its specifications. This is just another key point to consider when making enough room inside the cupboards.

5. C02 Cannister: Another part of the puzzle which also takes up room inside the cupboard and needs to be strapped to a wall for safety reasons. The C02 canister needs to be accessible for regular swapping over and also safely installed to ensure no one damages it. It is a pressurised vessel and requires a trained plumber to install and remove when required.

6. Water pressure: The ZIP all in one units and other ZIP products are sensitive to high water pressure. It is crucial that before any water is turned onto the new installation or repaired unit that the properties incoming mains water supply in checked. Any pressure above 750kpa is recommend by ZIP that a pressure reduction valve be installed. All manufacturers warranties will be voided if high pressure is allowed into the system.

7. Two ambient potable inlets: The ZIP all in one unit require two ambient potable water inlets with individual isolation valves. The first valve controls water the ZIP system and the second controls water the ambient potable water on the new spout.

8. Dripping water: The ZIP units which have boiling water as an option need to expel any build up of pressure inside the pressurised hot water vessel. In order to do this the spout will from time to time drip, this is normal operation and your tap is not broken.

9. Commissioning: A very important part of the installation process and new filter or C02 installation. From new when turned on the ZIP unit will go through a initial set up process. This process will require a 15L bucket and approximately 20 minutes.

Firstly, the C02 cannister will purge and this will emit air through the spout for approximately 10 seconds. Once next is pressed the system will require the filter to discharge 10 litres into a bucket to commission the new filter cartridge. The third step will be the unit calibrating and heating the boiling water (it does this by itself and notifies you on the screen when 100%)

10. Programming: Once the commissioning process is complete and the unit is in normal operation mode there are a few options you can adjust over time. The system has a programmable date and time so for offices etc you can put the unit in sleep mode when anticipated use will be zero (weekends for example).

11. Safety on boiling water units: As an added precaution the boiling water mode will require a two-stage operation to release the boiling water. This protects venerable and young people from scalding. This option can be turned off if desired.

12. Temperature adjustment: If you like your boiling water not so hot this temperature can be adjusted to your liking and also increased if you like it a little hotter.

13. Servicing: The ZIP units have a built-in filter which will require changing from time to time. The frequency of changes will once again depend on the use. A reminder will alert to this. Along with this if you have sparkling water this C02 cannister will also
need changing. Generally speaking, we supply and change both at the same time for our clients saving on numerous call out charges.
