Probably one of the more common questions we get asked, how can I stop my hot water service
from leaking?
Type Of Water Heater
Contents
The first thing we ask our customer is what type of water heater do you own? Is it a storage tank or a small box which hangs on the wall? The likelihood of being able to fix a continuous flow hot water (small box on the wall) are greater then that of a storage tank.
Regardless there is typically always a shut off valve which will temporarily stop the flow of water until a service technician can attend.
If a customer reports that a storage style water heater is leaking it is usually an older model potentially 10 plus years old and the cylinder has most likely developed corrosion internally and now started to leak.
Don’t Let The Problem Get Worse
Sometimes these leaks start off as a very minor issue and can escalate over time. Unfortunately for this type of problem there is no fix and the storage tank will need to be replaced. If how ever the tank or heat exchanger itself is not leaking there could well be an associated part
which is leaking. Items such as high temperature and cold-water relief valves can fail during the life of a hot water service and start to leak.
These are quite easy to fix and are not going to cost you a second mortgage.
